Future Lab
AI Creative Technologist
Senior· Remote position. Initial engagement is a 3-month trial contract.· Starts As soon as possible
About the role
A hands-on creative technologist joining Future Lab — AIxCreative's Applied AI R&D department — to prototype, validate, and document AI-driven workflows. The lab's output serves three directions: Industrial Design creative processes, Entertainment/Audiovisual production pipelines, and the development of custom tools, apps, and internal systems that extend what teams and clients can do with AI. The role is exploratory by nature, with most weeks involving testing tools and techniques that didn't exist three months ago and determining whether they belong in a client pipeline, an internal tool, or the bin.
Responsibilities
- Prototype and test AI-driven workflows for image, video, and 3D generation across both Industrial Design and Entertainment tracks
- Build and iterate on ComfyUI graphs, custom nodes, and chained tool pipelines
- Design and prototype agentic workflows that connect models, tools, and creative tasks
- Design and build custom tools, apps, and internal utilities that extend AI capabilities for the team and clients
- Produce 3D assets, scenes, and renders to support R&D experiments and proof-of-concepts
- Capture, process, and integrate Gaussian Splats and other neural-3D representations into workflows where applicable
- Evaluate new AI tools, models, and techniques as they emerge; produce structured findings on viability, limitations, and pipeline fit
- Document workflows, experiments, and learnings in a format reusable by other departments and clients
- Collaborate with Industrial Design and Entertainment teams to translate R&D outputs into production-ready workflows
- Support ad-hoc explorations requested by other departments when internal capacity is needed
- Maintain awareness of the AI landscape — papers, releases, open-source projects — and surface what's relevant to the lab
Must have
Hands-on experience with AI image and video generation tools (ComfyUI; Flux, Nano Banana, VEO, Seedance, Kling, or equivalents), Working knowledge of 3D modeling, animation, and rendering in Blender or an equivalent package (Maya, Houdini, Cinema 4D), Comfort building small tools and automations with AI-assisted coding ('vibe coding') — able to go from idea to working script or prototype using LLMs as a coding partner, R&D mindset with strong documentation habits — methodical, structured, able to write up experiments so others can reproduce them
Nice to have
Python fluency — able to read, modify, and debug scripts beyond what AI-assisted coding produces, Experience designing or prototyping AI agents and agentic workflows (custom orchestration, MCP, or equivalents), Experience building small apps or internal tools, Working literacy in machine learning and deep learning — understanding what models do under the hood, ability to read a paper or model card and extract what matters, comfort with concepts like fine-tuning, LoRA, diffusion, transformers, Experience capturing and working with Gaussian Splats (Postshot, Polycam, gsplat, or similar), Custom ComfyUI node development, Hands-on fine-tuning or LoRA training experience
Stack / Tools
ComfyUI, Flux, Nano Banana, VEO, Kling, Seedance, Luma, Blender, Maya, Houdini, Cinema 4D, Claude, Python, Postshot, gsplat, Polycam
Who thrives here
Someone who treats new AI tools and techniques as a playground rather than a threat, genuinely enjoying the cycle of 'test → break → document → share.' Curiosity matters more than depth in any single discipline, and the role rewards people who can move from a ComfyUI graph to a Blender scene to an agent prototype to a small app without context-switching pain, while also having the discipline to slow down and write things up properly so R&D output becomes useful beyond the individual.
Not required
Formal degree in design, VFX, computer science, or ML, Deep specialization in any single 3D package, Production VFX track record under film deadlines, Team leadership experience, Building ML models from scratch or research-level deep learning expertise, Production-grade full-stack engineering
Logistics
Remote position. Initial engagement is a 3-month trial contract.

Additional notes
The lab explicitly acknowledges this is a wide-net role bridging generative AI, 3D, agents, code, and app-building, and states they are not looking for someone who ticks every box — a solid base in two or three areas with genuine curiosity to grow into the rest is the target profile. Candidates from creative-technologist, technical-artist, or hybrid AI-engineering backgrounds are noted as tending to fit naturally.
