About the role
A production-experienced 3D artist who can model, animate, (simulations are a big bonus) and render using traditional tools while integrating AI workflows into the pipeline. This person understands film production deadlines, knows what it means to deliver under pressure, and can flex between softwares depending on project needs.
Responsibilities
Execute 3D modeling, animation, texturing, simulation, and rendering tasks on assigned shots and sequences
Test AI-augmented approaches to 3D workflows: procedural generation, AI-assisted texturing, AI-driven animation tools
Collaborate with compositors on delivering integrated shots ready for final composite
Participate in dailies and shot reviews with AIFX supervisor; provide technical input on 3D / AI integration,
Evaluate new 3D-related AI tools and techniques for production viability; document findings
Provide technical guidance and shot-level direction to mid-level 3D artist on complex work
Contribute to R&D efforts exploring where AI can augment or replace traditional 3D workflows
Support the Future Lab (R&D) team with 3D-specific technical knowledge as needed
Adapt to shifting project requirements and maintain delivery quality under production deadlines
Document workflows and experimental findings for team knowledge sharing
Must have
Professional 3D production experience in film, television, or streaming environments, Strong proficiency in Houdini with working knowledge of Maya and ability to flex to Blender, 3D modeling and animation skills with an understanding of lighting, texturing, and rendering pipelines, Familiarity with ComfyUI, Experience working under film production deadlines, Problem-solving mindset and comfort with long hours when production demands it
Nice to have
Experience with AI image or video generation tools and integration into 3D pipelines, Python scripting ability for pipeline automation, or node-based AI workflow environments, experience with Gaussian Splats

Who thrives here
This person comes from the world of hard deadlines and 15-hour days, with the production discipline and trained eye that takes years to develop. VFX-background candidates transitioning to AI are strongly preferred, as a decade of traditional 3D experience brings a depth of judgment that a pure AI-native practitioner cannot replicate.
Not required
Formal degree in 3D, VFX, or computer science, Comprehensive AI practice, CAD or industrial design software experience, Team leadership experience
On AI
Integrating AI tools and techniques into 3D production workflows is a core part of the role, including testing AI-augmented approaches such as procedural generation, AI-assisted texturing, and AI-driven animation tools. Comprehensive AI practice is not required — traditional 3D skills are the foundation.
Logistics
Remote position with contractor-provided hardware; 3D work requires capable machines. Shifted working hours, typically starting between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Initial engagement is a 3-month trial contract.
